Description

Here's one of many favorite aurora shots from our trip to Iceland in September.  It was hard to narrow down which to share, and at the same time I had hundreds of bad aurora shots.  Shooting aurorae is a unique photographic challenge, completely different than usual astrophotography.  Required a very wide field view, with an extensive dynamic range, are constantly moving requiring short exposures.  Seemed the best part of the display was usually moving to wherever your camera is not currently pointing!  Twice in my life I've seen the Northern Lights reach my home latitude of 41 degrees north, but was stunned when by the horizon-to-horizon, pulsating rippling brilliance of the Northern Lights from 63-65 degrees.
